No to Bowflex

Remember a few posts ago how I was considering purchasing a Bowflex fitness system? Yeah, well, we decided against it. Here are a few reasons why:

Cost. Man, their entry level system is priced at $899.99. That’s the basic system. From there, they only go up in price–all the way to nearly $3,ooo. I know I’m serious about getting into shape and going from wimp to pimp, but let’s face it…that’s a lot of dough.

Interest rate of Bowflex credit card. While we definitely have the means to purchase the basic system, tack on shipping charges and tax and you’re well over $1,000 (although I did find a code for free shipping!) Either way, I applied for and was approved for a $2,000 Bowflex card.

What’s wrong with that? Nothing–except the 20% interest rate! What? Can you imagine how much that thing would have cost me once I was done paying for it? And that was the clincher. Since the lawsuit settlement, we chose to pay off all of our credit cards and not incur any more debt. Taking that into consideration, I decided not to bother ordering one and racking up unneccesary dollars on a credit card. While the card should show up any day now, it’ll be cut in half and sent back.

So what did I do? I bought one of these at Wal-Mart. For the price I guess I couldn’t beat it. It’s still sitting in the carton as we speak since I didn’t want to start putting it together tonight. But tomorrow night, it’s on!

With the money saved, Ann wants to buy one of those elliptical machines. So hey, we both get something out of it.
