…to some new music, that is.
This eventually happens to the most dedicated of iPodders: you finally hit rock-bottom and realize that, even though your beloved music gadget holds your entire freaking music collection, it’s still not enough.
In short, you’re tired of it all. It happened to me and in an attempt to combat this syndrome, I subscribed to a few podcasts on iTunes. And it was cool–for about a week. I then came to the conclusion that not only do I know enough Spanish to get by, learning a language via podcast just isn’t for everybody. (I do, however, still subscribe to Grammar Girl’s podcast since you can never know enough about proper grammar.)
That said, I went on a quest to find some new music. And I found it thanks in part to XM Chill on XM Radio.
I listen to Chill nightly and whenever I hear a song that appeals to me, I record it for later listening or subsequent downloading. And being that iTunes has such a vast library of songs, I’ve been able to find quite a few.
So if I may here’s a list of songs I’ve discovered that you may enjoy as well, both instrumental and with vocals. Nothing overpowering; just good music. Note that some songs have vocal samples but not in a techno kind of way.
- Fatboy Slim, “Sunset (Bird of Prey)” featuring Jim Morrison vocal samples
- Groove Armada, “Jeanneret’s Groove”
- Håkan Lidbo, “From Stockholm with Love”
- Squarepusher, “Kodack”
- Tassel & Naturel, “Why Want You”
- Urchin, “Texas Yellow” (not to be confused with another song of theirs, “Texas Mellow”)
- Royksopp, “Dead to the World” and “Remind Me”
Speaking of Royksopp, I can almost guarantee you’ve already heard “Remind Me.” Here’s a clue just in case.
There’s a list to get you started, so head on over to iTunes or your online music retailer of choice and give them a listen. Comments are on so you can thank me later.
Oh yeah, I’m nearing 4,000 songs on my slightly-over-a-year-old 30GB iPod. I also got tickets to see Pet Shop Boys at the Hollywood Bowl in September and Tears For Fears in July. I’m happy 🙂
On to other things. Our CEO is in town once again for a follow-up to the Town Hall Meeting we had a few months ago, when we learned the company is not renewing the lease on the building and moving all operations from our Los Angeles location to the East Coast. Will the proverbial “other shoe” drop tomorrow? More importantly, will I even care?
Find out tomorrow!
