I’m Movin’ Out

Moving-Truck1Since I started blogging in 2004, I’ve had a few domain names inspired by different things.

SickSenseOfHumor.net was my first dabbling with DNS servers and all that other crap, the name taken from a verse of the Depeche Mode song Blasphemous Rumours.

I don’t want to start any blasphemous rumours
But I think that God’s got a sick sense of humour
And when I die
I expect to find Him laughing

The name was chosen for two reasons: I like the song and I thought my sense of humor was twisted enough to warrant using the line.

Then came HolographicMeatloaf.com, a line that was stolen from an episode of SpongeBob SquarePants. Meh. I just thought it was funny so I bought the domain, much to the suspected chagrin of SpongeBob fans worldwide.

And now, as I enter my 10th year of blogging in 2014, I’ve decided that the blog will change names once again and probably for the last time.

I have owned MorenoLand.com for a little under a year and have used it strictly for email purposes: the whole family has their own address with this domain which is kind of cool. I also have addresses dedicated to different types of correspondence like Facebook and whatnot. But other than that, the domain sits doing nothing but serve as a redirect to Google.

Additionally, it’s shorter: 10 letters vs. 19. I practically cut the name in half. It’s also a nice homage to the last name I inherited from Dad. I’m sure he would have laughed at this.

As such, I’ve decided that 2014 will usher in a new era of domainy goodness. From that point forward (and perhaps even sooner), this blog will be MorenoLand.com. I like the domain because it’s a little more personal than the previous ones and gives me the freedom to have a little more fun than before.

What does all this mean? Probably not a whole lot to anyone but yours truly who now has to update DNS servers with the host and do a few other behind-the-scenes things through WordPress. The name will probably only impact those who follow the blog through RSS feeds and I can imagine there aren’t many of those people. I can’t imagine there’s anybody following this blog period.

So from now until the end of the year, you might see some funky things going on around here: changes to the theme, banner, widgets, etc. Some might not be functional or the blog may not even be accessible periodically so the only thing I ask is for a little patience.

But you can rest assured that by the new year, it’ll all be straightened out. Thanks for hanging in there and for reading the blog, even if I don’t post as often I used to. I’m sure that’ll change in 2014 as well.

By the way, I will still own HolographicMeatloaf.com but I will make it redirect to the new domain. That is, unless, some serious SpongeBob fans make me an offer I can’t refuse…
