33

On this, the 33rd anniversary of Dad’s passing, I just want to share a few pictures with you all.

Here we are at the playground of what would eventually be my elementary school, Fries (pronounced “freeze”) Avenue School in Wilmington, CA. I remember that sweater having Snoopy and Charlie Brown, and the characters and text above it–I don’t remember that–was some kind of plastic stuff and really puffy.

This was at the L.A. County Fair in Pomona, CA. He bought me that checkered flag I’m holding and you couldn’t pry that thing away from me with a crow bar. That’s my brother on the right and yes, I was a very fat child.

Finally, I don’t think I need to tell you where this is. Pretty much explains why we spend so much time there…

…especially the place where the original picture was taken. (Yes, I added the border to that one.)

Dad may have only been around me for a mere seven years but as is evident by the photos above and my few memories of him, he loved spending time with us. It’s just a shame his addiction to alcohol was stronger than he was. Thirty-three years gone is a long time but a few years ago I finally came around and accepted it, no matter how much it may hurt.

Here’s one song that pretty much sums up everything for me.

One day this song just hit me and damn, did it hit me good. But it doesn’t turn me into the mushy mess that this one does:

Sorry for the mess. My thoughts are kind of here and there with this post.

Dad, you’re still missed–a lot.

  1. Great pictures. I think it’s so cool to be able to visits the same places with your son that you visited with your Dad. And I hope there was no outside damage to your home.

    1. Thanks. I’ve taken him many places that my Dad took me, including one of my favorite restaurants. Dad would always get a large meatball and garlic bread and to this day, I still do. And you know what? They taste the same as they did when I was a kid. Truly a sweet memory of him.

As far as the shaker goes, nah, nothing serious. But damn, it hit hard and quick! I had to calm down the boy since he was absolutely startled by it. He’s fine now 🙂
