SPIED: 2010 Kia Soul

Living in southern California–the Car Capitol if the World it seems–often makes us privvy to seeing new cars that are yet available for public purchase. Even if they are for sale, we still see some pretty cool things.

This is more of the former than the latter. While riding my bike to the store for the Sunday paper I had to stop and look at a car I hadn’t seen just yet. As such, I had to do a little online research to get some info on this vehicle since it was clear it was a Kia but it was missing any badging beyond that. It took a few seconds of Googling but I found the answer.

Behold, the 2010 Kia Soul:

The style of the car is not unlike the new Scion xB and looking at the Web site, it’s apparent that Kia is trying to muscle in on the small-car customization segment with trim levels varying from base to fancy.

But with xBs seemingly multiplying at an exponential rate, Kia definitely has their work cut out for them and only time will tell if the Soul will be much of a competitor against Toyota’s proven and successful sprite of a vehicle.

  3. The Cube is too boxy. The Soul has nice lines, but they’re subtle, not that evident in these pics. It’s a cool little mini-crossover, and will probably sell quite well.

    1. I agree. The Cube is definitely, well, a cube and I really hate how Nissan decided that the rear hatch needed to swing open rather than lift.

      This car might just give the Scions a run for their money, especially if Kia offers comparably priced base models.

  4. We just bought a 2010 “Onyx” (black) Kia Soul Retro this afternoon and I must say … it’s love at first sight.

    Its functional, rides great, looks awesome, many neat cubbies and smart designs. We went to the lot looking for a used Mazda3 hatch but once we saw the Soul and realized we could get one for the same amount as a used Mazda3 we just had to have one!

    We pick it up midweek nextweek.

    1. That’s good to hear. Aside from these spy shots, I haven’t seen one from the inside or all the goodies along with it. The Scion xB seems a bit old now even with the restyle, and the Nissan Cube is a bit lackluster in terms of design. I do, however, dig the Kia Soul. I see big things for this little vehicle. Hope yours is a blast, and congrats!
